Colonel Meow Passed Away

1545219_10151912310751977_1997441238_nFeline lovers are mourning the death of another feline idol that has long commanded their respect: Colonel Meow.

The serious-looking kitty’s owner Anne Marie Avey, a.k.a. “Slave Beast,” broke the sad news on the cat’s Facebook page early Friday, Manila time.

“Colonel Meow passed away yesterday evening. I will post more about the details when I’ve had a few days to grieve. Thank you so much for your understanding, Minions. Your love and support has meant the world to us both. -Slave Beast,” Avey wrote.

According to Colonel Meow’s Facebook page, the feline was born Oct. 11, 2011.

Tech site Mashable said Colonel Meow suffered health problems last November, but appeared regain his health.

Colonel Meow became famous after his photos were uploaded to Facebook as a joke.

“His background and perpetually serious face helped build his online persona as a booze-loving aspiring dictator,” it said.

Colonel Meow has also met other Internet celebrity cats, including Grumpy Cat and Lil Bub.

Mashable said even Grumpy Cat mourned the colonel’s death.

“It may be the grumpiest day ever. Grumpy and Colonel made a special connection at the Friskies holiday event and it feels like she lost a partner in crime. Long live Colonel Meow,” it quoted the sourpuss as saying.

Lil Bub similarly mourned the colonel’s death, Mashable added.

“Dear Colonel, you are without question, the most remarkable, impressive, and regal living creature I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Despite your intimidating facade, you were an incredible kind and loving creature that brought millions of humans great joy. Your legacy will never be forgotten Colonel. See you in space my dear friend,” it quoted her as saying.
